About Sherritt and Sons
Peter Sherritt formed his transport business, Peter Sherritt Transport, in 1993 and operated from premises in Morwell in the Latrobe Valley.
Peter’s son, Jeff, joined the business a short time later and together they built the business through the early years. In 1999 Peter’s other son Mark left his external job to also join the business full time.
Together Peter, Jeff and Mark built Peter Sherritt Transport organically, focusing on meeting customer needs and providing excellent service. They started working with hire companies and eventually won a tender for a three-year contract to provide transport services for the Hazelwood Power Station and Mine. This contract accelerated the business’ growth and enabled it to purchase its first prime mover. Since this time, the business continued to grow, buying more trucks and providing services over a wider geographical area.
In 2000, the business employed Sue Lewis as an administrative/officer manager. Sue remains integral to the success and performance of the business to this day. A few years later, Peter sadly passed away. Jeff and Mark decided to continue with the business and created a new company in 2005, Sherritt & Sons Pty Ltd. Over the past twelve years Sherritt and Sons has continued to experience solid growth based on its reputation and strong focus on providing quality transportation services.
Sherritt and Sons has now acquired a 4 axle truck (with boom and scissor lift capability) to capitalise on state-wide work, and a heavy trailer to service clients with very heavy loads more easily. They are now about looking towards the future of the business.
The members of Sherritt and Sons’ management team are as follows:
- Jeff Sherritt: Scheduling, customer liaison/service, direct customer sales, truck productivity/utilisation. Jeff is an astute planner and manager and works closely with Mark to review trends and position Sherritt and Sons to win new work, mainly through referrals and reputation.
- Mark Sherritt: General supervisor – all driver management, training, direct customer sales, managing service & maintenance. Back-up driver, as required.
- Sue Lewis: Bookkeeping, office management, administration, invoicing, accounts, compliance (OH&S,) and payroll.
Accreditations
Sherritt and Sons are participants in the National Heavy Vehicle Accreditation Scheme for Basic Fatigue Management. From the NHVAS website:
“The National Heavy Vehicle Accreditation Scheme (NHVAS) was first offered to industry in 1999 as an alternative compliance scheme. It has since evolved as a formal process for recognising operators who have robust safety and other management systems in place. It is also increasingly being used to show compliance with general duty requirements under road transport law.”
